  1. 1.Is the family on front of the current Sunday School Quarterly Pentecostal?
    I don't know; I don't know them.

2.Does the ABA really exist when it is not "in session?"
According to Article III, Section 1 "This Association shall be composed of regular Missionary Baptist churches." It seems it would have to logically follow that an association composed of churches exists 24/7.

3.When will Michael Reese blog the account of fighting off a drunk who tried to take over his pulpit in the Wednesday night service (not at Promise Land btw)?
I don't know, but it sounds like he should, and soon.

4.Can you recall the most memorable sermon you have ever heard?
    Yes, I can. ;-D

5.How can a person's breath both WARM their hands and COOL their soup?
Well, it is probably warmer than the hands and cooler than the soup?

6.Did Isaiah have very big crowds as he prophecied naked for three years? (Isaiah 20)
Not sure its says enough to make this determination. BTW, does the phrase "even with their buttocks uncovered" in verse 4 imply that Isaiah's buttocks was not uncovered?

If watching the Cowboys is the only other option, I believe I'd go home with him for lunch!

  2. Concerning #7, I would not blog something specific with reference to a church member or someone who even attends regularly.

This guy visited a couple of times...wrote that very quote on back of his Visitor's Card.
I told him the next service that I had been praying for him and would continue to do so.
He attended one or two more Sundays, and then wrote the church a letter stating that I had been rude to him, that in my preaching I had embarassed him & all Pentecostals(??)(the only reference I might have made was concerning works vs. salvation by grace) and that the church was "not up to par" because of their preacher. He also sent me a color picture of him & his wife????

I started to let it get to me....and then I remembered...he was the one who needed "a mind healing."

  3. 1. Although as Bro. Vaughn said, I don't know for sure, one's first thought when seeing them would make one wonder.

    2. Bro. Vaughn has a good point.

    3. Hmmm...might make for some interesting reading.

    4. Yes, I can also.

    5. what Bro. Vaughn said.

    6. Verse 3 does say, "And the LORD said, Like as my servant Isaiah hath walked naked and barefoot three years..."

    7. I don't know what I'd do (since I am not a pastor yet), but probably what you did. Watching the Cowboys is good, but not as good as it once was. ;)

  4. I well remember the most memorable sermon I ever heard - "What Will It Take To Bring You To God," by C. B. Teague.

  5. I've heard several memorable ones...the most memorable is probably a series of revival messages entitled "We Have An Altar" by Bob Goodnight.

  6. 1. No. Just the dog.

    2. Ditto to my uncle.

    3. Could we make that into a mini-movie to be shown in Charleston, WV?!?

    4. I can definitely recall the most "forgettable" sermon...ha!

    5. Ditto to uncle again.

    6. Would you have very big crowds if you did that?!?

    7. I'd call the local priest and let him handle the "exorcism." Besides, I've got a fantasy football team to worry about!

(Boy, I sure hope you can see sarcasm dripping off these letters...)

  7. 1. You can't tell by looking (not even the dog).

    4. After an initial (probably) botched attempt at humor, I will take a stab at this. First, I hope I didn't preach the forgettable sermon mentioned above (but I have preached a few I'd rather forget). Second, I think any sermon by Bob Goodnight is memorable (most especially if you're the one he's pointing his finger at). Third, the most memorable sermon (and I feel I've heard many many good sermons) was by Sammy Eldredge at a revival at Smyrna MBC at Oak Flat (probably in the early to mid 1980s). It was a sermon about heaven that made me want to load up and go right then (I guess I eventually got over it!). It is probably the only sermon I've heard where I honestly felt like shouting, and could have. But I didn't.

    7. I feel a test of fellowship coming on. Can you guys really still watch the Cowboys after what Jerry Jones did to Tom Landry? Really...

  8. Agreed on #7...and then the signing of T.O.

but when I see those stars on the helmets, something happens to any rationality...

BTW, I have a brand new, never worn, Houston Oilers cap...I just know they are going to win it all one day and I can wear it with pride :)

  9. 1.Is the family on front of the current Sunday School Quarterly Pentecostal?

I know a writer who was told by whoever is in charge of the writers not to write anything about TV, movies, etc. in the literature. When asked why, the person explained that we sell a vast majority of our literature to independent fundamental baptist churches. The person explaining also stated this is why we have cover pictures of women with full dresses, long hair and men and children also dressed up. So I'd guess they are fundamental independent Baptists or perhaps just ABA church members who were forced to put on new clothes. Or who knows, maybe they just enjoy wearing those clothes.

2.Does the ABA really exist when it is not "in session?"
The ABA consists of messengers of regular Baptist churches. This seems to be the best understanding.

4.Can you recall the most memorable sermon you have ever heard?
Wouldn't you have to be able to, in order to call it memorable? Brother Barry Carter about the woman with the issue of blood. Main points were along the lines of "1. A hopeless situation (having spent all she had and so much time), 2. Faith in the Healer. 3. Jesus is sensitive to our touch.

  10. Sorry boys, I've been away camping at the Bogg...no cell service up there...so here is my take on these questions of randominity...

1.Is the family on front of the current Sunday School Quarterly Pentecostal?
I thought using literature other than the Bible was wrong...but I think they are just modest people who take the bible literally.

2.Does the ABA really exist when it is not "in session?"
If it's on the Church signs it has to exist, as in "Landmark Missionary Baptist Church ABA Nursery Provided"

3.When will Michael Reese blog the account of fighting off a drunk who tried to take over his pulpit in the Wednesday night service (not at Promise Land btw)?
One of the all-time GREATEST stories I have ever heard! I think Michael should have let him preach on the Holy Spirit!

4.Can you recall the most memorable sermon you have ever heard?
Bro. David McAlister...National Camp #2, 1997? or 1996? He used the law of sowing and reaping and preached about you may get what you want but lose what you had! Hardest sermon I EVER heard preached!

5.How can a person's breath both WARM their hands and COOL their soup?
It's kind of like that story George younce from the cathedral's once said, when speaking about how awesome his thermos was at keeping hot things hot and cold things cold...when asked what was in it he said, "Ice Tea and Chili!" The wonders of science and convection heating and cooling properties!

6.Did Isaiah have very big crowds as he prophecied naked for three years? (Isaiah 20)
    Probably not during the winter...lol!

7.If a visitor to your church turns in a visitor card, and on the back is written this message: "Bro. ____, I need a mind healing! Satan and his demons have been working on me for some time....Will you help me to call on them to evaporate?" Should you go home with him or just go eat lunch and watch the Dallas Cowboys?
That was a private conversation between you and I...I can't believe you would betray my trust like that! I have struggled watching the 'boys since what Jerry Jones did to Tom Landry...I'm glad I'm not the only one with that problem.
