Texas / Louisiana Preachers

Somebody told me that Texas preachers could flat outpreach Louisiana preachers.
I told him that was a mean thing to say. Even if it were true, it was mean and uncalled for. Don't you think?

  1. I do think it was mean and uncalled for.

Many Texas preachers I've heard do give good talks.

  2. And Louisiana preachers are so predictable with their requested amens.

    We're all sinners. Amen?
    Jesus loves us. Amen?
He's coming back for us. Amen?

:) Now I'm having fun. (Amen?)

  3. That was a very mean and uncalled for statement. Whoever told you this obviously had a complex concerning his own preaching and felt the need to bloviate.

God calls his men and some men have a natural ability that they have honed (sharpened) over many years and can just speak better.

Delivery has nothing to do with a good preacher...the substance of his sermon however does make him a good preacher.

Let me add this...Ephesians speaks of pastors, evangelists and pastors and teachers. Every preacher will excel in one of these areas...a handful will excel in two of them and rarely you will find a man that excels in all three.

an evangelist...is a great pulpiteer (in my opinion)

a pastor...is a great shepherd and leader of people

pastor/teacher...would be those who excel at teaching things and making difficult things simple to understand.

just my thoughts...I think Lousiana preachers that pastored in Texas and come back to Lousiana can outpreach anybody though...lol...hahaha...:)

  4. I feel so embarrassed for both TX and LA preachers. They preach warm sermons (not so hot)- hahaha. I can also tell deer hunting stories better than church members. There are little idiosyncrasies that are regional in the preaching. I'd have to say in all seriousness, if my preaching couldn't earn an amen, I wouldn't be caught dead asking for one. I have even heard it said that some preachers in TX and LA imitate AR preachers such as BOGARD,etc.

  5. There is a "style" of preaching that is kind of a "sing-song" way of speaking....it has uh's, kind of like...."Jesus loves you and uh....He died for you and uh....you need to be saved uh....."

I've heard a couple of guys preach that way, but it has been awhile.

I'm not trying to be disrespectful if you know someone who preaches like that, it's just very different. I think there is a name for that kind of preaching, but not sure what it is.

  6. I definitely don't understand why preachers ask for an amen, and it definitely isn't a regional thing.

As to the Bogard comment... I sure wouldn't want to do that either. As intelligent and doctrinally sound as he may have been, from the things I've read that he spoke, he came across very arrogant and cocky. He seemed to disrespect other people, even in public speaking. And if the stories I've heard are true (like him asking a guy to pray 10 times in the same sermon just to make him feel bad about praying a long prayer), then I definitely don't want to be a speaker like him.
